MEXICO CITY, Mexico, May 23, 2011.-Federal agents arrested a English ell allegedly linked to Basque separatist group ETA and who was charged with possession of a weapon for the exclusive use of the Army.
The Attorney General's Office (PGR) reported on Monday in a statement that Luis Miguel Ipiña Dona, of English origin and legal residence in Mexico, he was interned in a prison outside the capital.
Alongside this process for the crime of using a firearm for the exclusive use of the army, the authorities continue investigations against him for possible illicit organized crime and terrorism.
Ipiña The PGR said that is connected to an investigation into a suspected ETA member deported from Mexico to Spain, and identified as Juan Carlos Gutiérrez Recarte.
"There were indications that Mrs. Luis Miguel Ipiña English-born legal resident in Mexico, probably also had links with the aforementioned terrorist organization while living in Spain, "added the attorney.
federal authority conducted a raid at the home of Ipiña in Ecatepec, a municipality of the State of Mexico and near the capital, where we found a 7.62 mm caliber rifle and a .25 mm pistol.
in the past have been arrested other suspected ETA members in Mexico, one of the most notorious cases occurred in ell 2003, when the police captured six Basques who were accused of raising funds for ETA through business in Mexico.
The suspects tried to avoid his extradition, but eventually were sent to English territory in May 2006.
